Babes in Business: Sheridan of Rockabella Beauty

Hello lovely people!

What a crazy week this has been? Between job interviews, re enrolling at Uni and photoshoots I am absolutely exhausted. So exhausted in fact that I am posting my Woman Crush Wednesday post a day late! But i promise you, this week’s subject was so inspiring, she had me pondering a pamper day with a midcentury twist!

This week I had the good fortune of interviewing Sheridan of Rockabella Beauty, the latest vintage beauty salon to open in our lovely little city. The Salon offers various beauty services such as manicures, waxes and lash extensions in an adorable vintage styled setting. But don’t take this mermaid’s word for it. See for yourself.

Midcentury Mermaid: Tell me a little bit about your business?

Sheridan: I’ve opened the salon with my mum and little sister, my mum has 22 years in the beauty industry and is a Tafe lecturer by night so we will constantly be up to date with what new in the industry. I myself am pinup/rockabilly style which has helped me in developing my relationship with beauty in a unique way. My little sister is the eyebrow queen, she mainly covers tinting and waxing and has great passion for it.

MM: What inspired you to start your own business?
S: We wanted to change the way people see nail salons and no longer fear getting their nails done so we wanted to bring it back to how it used to be, this is why we wanted to to the 50/60’s inspired theme.

MM: How do you think customer service and the beauty industry has changed over the years?

S: Salons these days have lost the connection for the client, it’s become a factory. Also with the news stories about fungi infection and diseases we make sure that our equipment is properly disinfected and uv sterilised. We insure that all of our technicians are qualified to the Australian standard.

MM: Who is one person, alive or deceased, you would love to visit your Salon?

S: Definitely Audrey Hepburn, she’s a true picture of grace!

MM: What is some advice you wish to impart on anyone wanting to start their own business?

S: Research and prepare! And expect to have some speed bumps along the way. It won’t be easy but it’ll be worth it once it’s up and running.

Well, there you have it ladies and gents! We think Sheridan “nailed” our interview and this mermaid cannot wait to go pay her a visit for some sparkles of her own!
